Change to notification requirements
1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to provide written guidelines for the prompt notification of specific environmental, health, and safety requirements and/or conditions on current or upcoming jobs to the Safety Department.
2.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
It is the responsibility of the Operations Manager, or Project Manager to notify the Safety Department of the securing of new projects, or the significant expansion of scope for existing projects, that may necessitate the placing of a Safety professional, or of specific concerns or hazards such as stated in Section 3.0 of this procedure.
It is the responsibility of the Site Manager to notify the Corporate Safety Director of changes in scope, conditions, or requirements that may require additional safety personnel, monitoring or testing requirements, or interface with the customer or regulatory agencies.
3.0 PROCEDURE
3.1 Conditions that require notification:
• Twenty-five or more personnel required on a job site.
• Twenty-five or more personnel on a shift.
• Environmental or Industrial Health concerns such as, but not limited to:
o The Possible presence of or working with Lead or Lead-based paints or coatings
o The Possible presence of Asbestos that may be disturbed in the course of work
o Potential of exposure or disturbance of Arsenic
o Working in Oxygen deficient atmospheres
• Excavation work four feet (4 ft.) or deeper
• Work area temperatures in excess of 110F or surface temperatures of 200F
• Critical lifts
• Potential need for EHS to meet or interface with regulatory agencies or customer representatives
• Monitoring or testing requirements
• Any task or situation that puts personnel or equipment in potential or indeterminate risk or may have major liability concerns or potential.
3.2 Immediate Notification
Some conditions, situations, or occurrences are of sufficient concern to justify immediate notification to the Corporate Safety Director. The following occurrences require notification to the appropriate Corporate Safety Director within twenty-four hours:
• Significant Near-Miss or Equipment damage (i.e. dropped load, major fire, forklift, or crane accident, etc.)
• Medical Attention case
• Air contaminant release
• Motor Vehicle Accident
o Recordable or greater injury or illness.
This list is not comprehensive. If in doubt, call the Corporate Safety Director at 304-204-1500.
The following occurrences require immediate notification to the Corporate Safety Director as soon as practical after the occurrence:
• EPA Event
• OSHA inspection or receipt of a complaint
• Crane Accident
• Any incident with a customer, contractor, or sub-contractor impact
The Notification of Work Conditions or Concerns form shall be submitted to document the conditions as detailed in section 3.1 of this procedure.
