1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to provide written instructions for housekeeping.

2.0 RESPONSIBILITY
It is the responsibility of the qualified person to implement the requirement of this procedure.

4.0 PROCEDURE
4.1 During the course of construction, alteration, or repairs; work areas should be kept clean, orderly, and in sanitary conditions daily.
4.2 All scrap lumber and other debris should be kept cleared from work areas, passageways, and stairs in and around buildings or other structures. Protruding nails shall be removed or bent so as not to present a puncture hazard.
4.3 Combustible scrap and debris should be removed at regular intervals and safe means provided to facilitate such removal.
4.4 Containers should be provided for the collection, and separation of waste, trash, oily and solvent-sealed rags. The containers used for garbage, oily rags, solvent-soaked rags, and other hazardous waste, etc. shall be equipped with covers. Garbage and other waste should be disposed of at regular intervals (daily as a minimum).
4.5 In addition to the clean-up of garbage and waste, work areas should be kept in an orderly manner. At the end of each work shift, all tools should be put in gang boxes. Drop cords, ladders, and other items of this nature should be neatly placed out of passageways, hallways, and doorways.
4.6 Materials shall be stored so as not to present a falling material hazard to persons working below or around scaffolding, stairways, storage racks, or other elevated work or storage areas.

5.0 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
In addition to this procedure, employees should adhere to each facility’s housekeeping procedures.
