- Exposes employees when:
CDC says HBV is not spread routinely through:
Spreads through direct contact with infected blood
Can cause serious health problems
Is a leading cause of liver cancer
Is not transmitted efficiently through occupational exposure
Transmission methods include:

- Blood transfusions and organ transplants
- Sharing needles or other equipment to inject drugs
- Body piercing or tattoos in unlicensed or informal facilities
- Blood contamination
- Sexual transmission, in rare cases
- Childbirth
