General Revision; reformat and renumbered procedure; revised First aid supply list
1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to provide written guidelines for Nitro Construction Services to meet regulatory requirements for medical and first aid services.
2.0 RESPONSIBILITY
It is the responsibility of the site manager/superintendent to make available first aid services and provisions for medical care for every employee. The site manager or his qualified designee is responsible for implementation of this procedure.

4.0 PROCEDURE
4.1 The site manager shall ensure the availability of medical personnel for advice and consultation on matters of occupational health.
4.2 Provisions shall be made before the commencement of the project for prompt medical attention in case of serious injury.
4.3 In the absence of an infirmary, clinic, hospital, or physician, that is reasonably accessible in terms of time and distance to the work site, which is available for the treatment of injured employees, a person who has a valid certificate in first aid training from the U.S. Bureau of Mines, the American Red Cross, or equivalent training that can be verified by documentary evidence, shall be available at the work site to render first aid. This First Aid/CPR certification may be held by the Site Manager or his/her qualified designee.
4.4 In the event of injury requiring off site medical attention, the site manager, designated supervisor, or site safety supervisor shall provide transportation and shall accompany the injured employee to the medical facility. In the event of potentially life-threatening injury or illness, the local EMS shall be called for transportation.
4.5 A first aid kit shall consist of materials approved by the consulting physician in a weatherproof container with individual sealed packages for each type of item. The contents of the first aid kit shall be checked by the site manager or his qualified designee before being sent to a job site and at least weekly thereafter to ensure that the expended items are replaced.
4.6 Proper equipment for prompt transportation of the injured person to a physician or hospital, or a communication system for contacting necessary ambulance service, shall be provided.
4.7 The telephone numbers of the physicians, hospitals, or ambulances shall be conspicuously posted by the site supervisor.
4.8 Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes or body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use. This can be accomplished using portable eye wash stations or equivalent.
5.0 FIRST AID SUPPLIES
First Aid supplies shall be readily accessible in the event of an injury.
The following is a recommended list of first-aid supplies to be stocked on each job (Table 012A). This is not an all-inclusive list. Situations may arise that require additional supplies. Consult the Safety Department or local medical director if you have a special situation.
